This is a fairly rare model, made from ca. '74-'79, and from my memory, I believe it may be the first reissue Gibson produced. Since that time, just about everything has been reissued, as either a limited edition model or a permanent fixture in the Gibson catalog. Like most of the early reissues, historical accuracy wasn't a major focus. The LP-55 was a reissue of a '55 LP Special but it features a Tuneomatic/stopbar combination rather than the wraparound tailpiece (a few of the early ones used the wraparound) used on the original and for some reason Gibson chose to use a "Les Paul Model" signature rather than "Les Paul Special.

These two differences aside, it is very much the same guitar with a bound mahogany neck, slab mahogany body finished in "limed green" or "TV" as it's known, dual P90 soapbars, dual volume and tone controls with the selector on the upper bass bout, body-mounted 4-ply pickguard, bound neck, plain "bell" truss rod cover, and black headstock veneer with inlaid pearl logo and screened model.

It also had a Bigsby at some point but there's no "shadow" indicating it's presence and the only signs are a few small plugged holes which held it in place. Tuners have been changed to Schallers, which are a vast improvement over the stock tuners. All the essential stuff including pickups, wiring, pots, pickguard and knobs, are stock.

This guitar is an excellent player that needs nothing to gig right now. Frets are in great shape, bends are true, tone isn't as searing as some of the P90's you hear today, more of a vintage tone!!!! I have the real deal 56 one of these and a 57 in my shop... This is as Good if not better.(wrap around bridges work, tune-o-magic bends the strings much easier)

Black Lights out and Glows like 1955 Gibson....This is Nitro Finish***** THIS IS A TRUE GEM..Period. Either you believe me, or not.:)
