VERY RARE set of three hand wound black back Abigail Ybarra pickups including the wiring harness, three pots and a three way switch. This was taken off a brand new closet classic 1954 Fender 50th Anniversary Custom Shop Masterbuilt Stratocaster. Abigail Ybarra has been hand winding pickups for Fender since the 1950's. A set of "grey" back Custom Shop "Abbies" goes for around $600. These are of course period correct vintage "black backs" and of course they sound better than awesome!!

Beginning in January of 2004, the Fender Custom Shop will make a limited number of 50th Anniversary 1954 Stratocaster guitars. These faithful replications will be made using many of the same machines and manufacturing methods used 50 years ago. The Custom Shop will use all of the same materials that went into the first 1954 Stratocaster guitars, including a solid ash body, oversized Alnico 3 pole piece magnets, the styrene blend used for the pickup covers, knobs and switch cap, and the PVA pickguard material. Reproductions of the original pickups will be wound by Abigail Ybarra, who has been making Fender pickups since the 1950s. Additionally, all the plastic parts for the Custom Shop 50th Anniversary 1954 Stratocaster have been retooled to historically correct shapes and specifications. The Custom Shop 50th Anniversary 1954 Stratocaster is available only with a lightly aged, vintage correct 2-Tone Sunburst lacquer finish and a one piece maple neck and fretboard. Orders for these guitars will be taken from January 15th to December 31st, 2004. US MSRP is $5,400.

As from the Web on this 1954 No longer made:These Limited Edition 1954 Strats were built from January 15th to December 31st of 2004 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Stratocaster guitar. They are faithful replications made with the same exacting detail as the original instruments, using many of the same machines and manufacturing methods used 50 years ago. Every deep body contour, pickup magnet and screw is a replica of a 1954 Strat. Fender even went as far as to have pre-CBS Fender employee, Roger Centeno, stamp each tremolo cover plate with the original die.

This guitar features a nitro-cellulose lacquered, two-piece ash body with offset glue seam, and one-piece “U”-shape maple neck. This limited release guitar also includes three new Custom Shop Vintage 1954 Stratocaster pickups wound by Abigail Ybarra - custom reproductions of the original 1954 pickups. The finish and body contours also match the original exactly. There are also features and details that have yet to be seen on a reproduction, including the unique knobs, switch tip, pickguard, tremolo cover plate and pickup covers that have been retooled and manufactured using the exact formulas and materials that were used on the original parts. All these plastic parts were aged. Also included are the original (at that time "Patent Pending") bridge saddles, which have been replicated. The guitar is fitted with an original synchronized tremolo with “Ash Tray” bridge cover, bone nut, special documentation and an original form-fit Brown case. All case candy is included.
